Instructions How To Wash Hair with Soap Shampoo Bar
Are you curious about how to use Shampoo Bar to wash hair, or even just how to wash hair with soap bars? Read on for tips about washing hair with a solid shampoo instead of liquid!
We have several customers who use our soaps for clean, healthy feeling hair & skin! While any of our soap rounds can be used as a shampoo bar, we now have two bars formulated specifically for use on hair & scalp- our Shampoo Bar with Avocado Oil & Tea Tree & Shampoo Bar with Avocado Oil Fragrance-Free !
The instructions are the same whether you're washing your hair with soap, or washing your hair with a shampoo bar, so you can try it out right away with the Sappo Hill soap in your shower!
To use shampoo bar, wet hair thoroughly, run water over bar; gently smooth the bar from hairline to crown, or work in little circles around your head, working all the way around your hairline. You can also lather the shampoo bar in your hands, then smooth the lather along your hair & scalp, using your fingers like a comb.
If hair is longer, it can be tied into a ponytail before wetting. After wetting, rub the shampoo bar all around the head, leaving the ponytail alone. Then release the ponytail, massage all around the head & scalp, and as you rinse, the lather running down the length of the hair should be enough to cleanse it well.
Unlike shampooing, you will want to work with the direction of the hair, and not pile on the head as this can cause unnecessary tangling. Massaging the scalp is good, and try to work from front and down to the back without too much friction or circling. Quantity of lather varies depending on if the water supply is hard water or soft water.
We also have helpful tips from a customer who absolutely LOVES washing her hair with the Sappo Hill Shampoo Bars! :
"Sappo Hill’s shampoo bar has simplified my routine so delightfully because I can use it on my face and body, and no longer need daily conditioner, which caused breakouts.
One pure product for a rich lather. It feels great! It took a while for my hair to get used to it. I found that lathering all the way down the hair shaft until I can run my fingers through all my hair, and then rinsing leaves hair clean and bouncy. "

Like all soap products, keep out of eyes. Rinse thoroughly. When rinsing, you may notice that the hair has a squeaky-clean texture- much different than conventional bottled shampoos.
If you are new to shampoo bars, or are using hard water, we might also recommend rinsing your scalp and hair with apple cider vinegar (ACV) after using the shampoo bar. The ACV helps with pH balance, de-tangles, and adds softness. ACV has an added benefit of being a common over-the-counter natural treatment for dandruff and forms of dermatitis. Make your own DIY recipe for ACV conditioner with a dilution of about 1 teaspoon in 8-12 oz water works well, and will vary with hair thickness and length. Slowly pour the solution across scalp and allow it to run down length of hair. Wait a couple of minutes before rinsing with just water--cool water is said to add shine. You will be sure that you are going to smell like vinegar, but fret not! I have had some very candid friends bury their face in my hair and tell me all they smell is "clean"! :)
If you prefer not to use a vinegar rinse, we can recommend this method sent in by a kind Sappo Hill customer- We tested it, and it works! - While hair is lathered & soapy, comb through with a large/wide tooth comb, and continue combing while thoroughly rinsing with plenty of water- Rinse completely while combing, and your hair should be tangle-free! You can do a quick cold-water rinse to close the hair shaft and add shine!
Please note that switching from conventional shampoo to all-natural shampoo bar often goes hand-in-hand with a transition period. For some it may be just a few washes, for others, it may be a few weeks to a month before everything “settles in”, but in our experience, it is worth the wait! Once the hair has transitioned, many never want to use liquid shampoo again! Most people find they can wait a longer period of time between washes, their hair has more body, and is more manageable. Plus, shampoo bars are so FANTASTIC for travel- no worries with TSA, and nothing to spill in your travel bag or backpack!
It's a great feeling to use a shampoo bar that allows you to feel good about what you are using on your hair & body! Hurrah!!
We truly hope our shampoo bar, this washing process, and our tips will be enjoyable and helpful for you!
